Could this seven-game series have gone any worse? Could we have hurt ourselves any more than we did? Not only did we lose, but we lost two key players to injury! How did it happen? Let’s dive in and discuss!
I’m starting to worry bout our offense. With J.T. and Rhys hurt, there have not been many guys who have stepped up their games. In the past three games, they have scored a combined four runs. That just won’t cut it against the good teams. We were only able to score two runs on four hits.
The only hits we got came from Scott Kingery, Andrew McCutchen, Bryce Harper, and Rafael Marchan. Scott Kingery and Andrew McCutchen both homered to put us on the board. Nice to see the offensive boosts from guys like Kingery and Cutch. It was also nice to see Harper get back on track. Over the past five games, he’s averaging .353, with one home run, one RBI, and three walks. We’ll need more performances like this from Bryce down the stretch.
Vinny continues to give me headaches. It’s always one step forward and two steps back with him. After a stellar start last game, he reverted to his usual self. I will be a happy camper when he is no longer on this team. In 3.2 innings of work, he allowed four runs on seven hits, with one walk and five strikeouts. Here’s hoping for a better replacement next year.
The bullpen had a decent game aside from Phelps. He allowed two runs on two hits, with two strikeouts in 1.1 innings of work. The rest of the pen allowed two hits and five strikeouts through 3.0 innings of work. Here’s hoping It can improve as The Sprint To The Finish rages on!
