A Sprint To The Finish: Game 39

I’m starting to get a bit worried. It was not the type of performance you wanted before a seven-game series with the Marlins. With a team as weak as the Red Sox, this should have been easy money. We should be looking at a three-game win streak heading into the Marlins series. That is not what happened. What did happen? Let’s dive in and find out!

Didi continues to be Mr. Offense during the last few games. He’s 4-11 with two RBI’s and a walk. A run also scored on an error during his plate appearance. That’s a .363 average during that stretch of games. Other than Didi, the only other hits in the game came from Rhys Hoskins, Kyle Garlick, and J.T. Realmuto. We only scored two runs on five hits. That is unacceptable. From a team contending for a playoff spot, I demand more. One can only hope we get more during the next seven games.

Vince Velasquez pitched a good game! I’m just as shocked as everyone else. He was in control, he was striking guys out, and was in the zone. His only real issue was his pitch count. He allowed only two runs on seven hits and had nine strikeouts. It’s disheartening that as well as he pitched, he couldn’t get the win he deserved.

That would be the bullpen’s fault. In 1.2 innings of work, they allowed three runs on three hits, with three walks and two strikeouts. I don’t know what happened to David Phelps. In twelve games with the Brewers, he allowed only four runs, with a 2.77 ERA. In four games with the Phillies, he’s allowed five runs, with a 19.29 ERA. Something needs to be fixed and fixed fast. We are heading into a seven-game series with the Marlins. If we can’t fix our problems, It will mean the end of our playoff race. Here’s hoping for better outings as The Sprint To The Finish rages on!
