A Sprint To The Finish: Game 9/10

Since this double header was a destroyer of worlds im gonna break everything down together. In a shocking turn of events, Vince Velasquez was much improved over his last start. He pitched 4 innings while giving up just 3 hits, 1 run,3 walks and struck out 6. If you could start to get a bit more from him inning wise it could be a big plus.

This was not a good game for the offense. We only mustered up 3 hits and 2 runs. The worst part? 2 of those runs came from McCutchen driving in runs while hitting fly balls. It was honestly a good game from Andrew, he had 2 RBI’s and 1 hit. The only other hits you were able to muster was from Roman Quinn and Neil Walker.

The bullpen continues to be a mess. Delios Guerra fell back to earth after having a good 2 games, surrendering 2 hits and 2 runs. Mr. reliable Adam Morgan wasn’t much better, giving up 2 hits, 2 runs, and a walk to go along with his lone strike out. Cole Irvin and Ramon Rosso fared better allowing only 2 hits and a walk through 2 innings.

If you were expecting a fairy tale start from Spencer Howard then you were sadly mistaken. That’s not not to say it was all bad. He showed some of the things that made him deadly. At certain points he looked like a right handed Cliff Lee, while others looking like Kyle Kendrick. In 4.2 innings he gave up 7 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk but struck out 4. While he did have a less than lovely debut, the sky is the limit for this kid who can only get better in time.

This was another bad offensive game for the Phillies. You went 4-25 with 1 walk and 0 runs. To make matters worse? 3 of your 4 hits came from struggling players in Scott Kingery and Rhys Hoskins. It’s good that they stepped up but bad that no one else did. Your other lone hit came from your super star Bryce Harper.

As per usual the bullpen sucked. This is common knowledge, and it’s gonna get worse before they get better. Trevor Kelly and Austin Davis combined for 2 innings of work and allowed 7 hits, 4 runs, while striking out 4 batters. While this double header was embarrassing their is room for improvement ! They will be playing the Orioles who are 7-7 currently but 2-4 in their last 6 games. So here’s hoping things can be turned around as The Sprint To The Finish continues !
