This game was a nail biter pure and simple. You needed a major bounce back game after the collapse of game 6. This was a game you can be proud of. It wasn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination but It gave you some good posatives heading into The Braves series.
The Phillies right now are averaging about 5 runs per game, and they just so happened to hit that average during the game. 8 hits and 5 runs against the Yanks is nothing to bat your eyes about. You also get to have a little fun knowing the Yankees players and coaches got frazzled by the Phillies fans outside the stadium. Enough of childish pranks and good vibes, lets focus on the game !
If you are apart of the sign J.T. Realmuto crowd this was a great game for you ! He went 2-4 with a home run and 3 RBI’s. Not to mention he threw out some pour fool trying to run on him. Don’t he know? YOU DON’T RUN ON J.T.!!!!! It was also nice to see Roman Quinn start to heat up. There’s one thing that we love in the city of brotherly love, and that’s hustle! This kid has it. With two straight games of him hustling and working extra hard to get on base, you have to appreciate it. He busted his bust on the bases for a triple, perhaps he could be what we hoped Ben Revere could be? A good lead off hitter who can get on base to start the inning? Oh what else was there?OH YAH THE MOOSE IS LOOSE! Others wanna call him barrels but i prefer moose. In 5 games Phil Gosselin is batting .600 with 6 hits, 2 home runs and 6 RBI’s. Not to mention he went 1-2 last night with 2 RBI’s. I’m somewhat confused as to why Girardi had Bruce bat for Phil but I’d wager he was looking for a bit more power with Bryce Harper on second. It didn’t work but i get the logic.
Zach Eflin had himself a pretty good game. Sure the stats dont look amazing but they don’t tell the true story. if not for a blown double play by Scott Kingery at second place he would have been out of the third inning with 0 runs and 29 less pitches on his pitch count. His stuff was delivering and if not for a error he would have been able to hang in there longer. In 4 innings he gave up 4 hits, 2 runs, struck out 5 and walked only one. All in all not a bad performance despite coming back from injuiry.
How was the bullpen? Not the worst. Mr. disaster Deolis Guerra actually had himself a nice outing. No runs, hits, or walks through a inning and even had himself a strike out. Not to mention Jose Alvarez also had a decent outing only giving up 1 hit to go along with his 1 strike out. Having a 3 run lead we didn’t know what exactly we were getting when Nick Pivetta took the mound. He made it through a inning and looking pretty good. Then a few batters into the 8th inning he gave up a 2 run shot making the score 5-4. In 5.1 innings pitches, hes given up 4 hits, 4 runs, 2 home runs and has a ERA of 6.75. Now are you ready for the good ? Hector Neris ! Yes while it was shaky Hector got it done. He recorded a 4 out save giving up only 2 hits in 1.1 innings. Granted those hits came during the 9th and gave us all quite a scare, he got the job done. In 3 games he has 2 saves, given up 2 hits, 0 runs and has a ERA of 0. In a bullpen full of horrors Hector Neris is the only bright spot. After a nice series with the Yankees we try and see if we can get past .500 against the Braves. Well see just how things turn out as The Sprint To The Finish rolls on !
