“Marv’s his own person, but he certainly had a great example of, obviously, a Hall of Fame dad and what he did, but that’s not easy to do, to follow in someone’s footsteps who’s a Hall of Famer like that,” said Ohio State Head Coach Ryan Day as he discussed Harrison Jr. coming off his outstanding Rose Bowl performance to end the 2022 season.
It’s no secret that we’re talking about the son of an NFL great, but Harrison Jr. has done a great job of taking that platform and molding it into his own.
This is the same young man who stood symbolically under his dads ring of honor in Indianapolis as he took questions at Big Ten media day, he has the weight of the world on his shoulders.
But these are broad shoulders and the work he puts in is second to none. Again similar to his dad.
“The standard is my dad. That’s a Hall of Famer. You always compare yourself to him,” said Harrison Jr.
“Your whole life you’re chasing after your dad, the best receiver to ever play the game. I think the standard’s always been high. The goals he reached are the goals I’m trying to accomplish. Why not follow the same footsteps? Knowing the work that he put in, why try to take a different path?” Harrison Jr. said.
A two sport athlete, Harrison Jr. played basketball during his freshman year at La Salle. He soon transfered to St. Joes Prep to partner with his eventual Ohio State QB and take Philadelphia by storm. Three consecutive state championships later and Harrison Jr. was into a four star recruit — the 21st WR in the nation and first in Pennsylvania.
Following a career that saw him set many Philadelphia city records, he went on to become the first and only Buckeye receiver to have three touchdown receptions in a single game three times.
To put a bow on his dominance, there was a three-game stretch during 2022 where Harrison Jr. was responsible for 49% of Ohio State’s total receiving yards.

Prospect Overview:
The kid is a coaches dream. I’ve always said if you could create a player, they would probably look like Julio Jones, but then MHJ came along. This young man is the epitome of measurables meet skillset, mixed with an immense work ethic.
It helps a whole lot when you pair him with arguably the best WR developer in the country, Brian Hartline, and you have a match made in heaven.
Harrison Jr. has the pipeline and the work ethic to become one of the best WRs the NFL has to offer. A mammoth player standing at 6-foot-3, weighing 209 pounds, he moves a lot closer to the 6-foot, 180 pound frame of his father.
A savvy route runner, Harrison Jr. does a really good job of setting defenders up with limited false steps to get to his destination. He has a quality release package that allows him to gain a step on most snap. A lot of this stems from his elite level footwork but his frame makes it difficult for defenders to recover.
Harrison Jr. would usually prefer to attack defenders in a nuanced—finesse manner, but he’s shown that he is willing and able to fight through contact at the top of routes. He’s worked from multiple alignments in an offense that asked for a expanded route tree. He possesses really reliable hands that seem to find the football despite location.
He isn’t a ‘burner’ but he has what we call ‘football speed’ and moves extremely well for his size. Harrison Jr. is a threat with the ball in his hands, evidenced by his 28 touchdowns over the past two seasons.
MHJ projects to be a day one starter and a difference making player with an X receiver profile but abilities to impact the game from any specification.
